I had just come from visiting my Dad at Topanga Terrace – he’s recovering from a broken hip. We were talking (with a brother of mine who was also visiting my Dad) about gut feelings and how if you don’t follow a gut feeling, you miss out on something.
I was driving down Roscoe Blvd (approaching Tampa Ave) when I noticed a big sign that said, “JAZY.” It was leaning up against the building on the corner and there were candles on the steps of the building. I had planned to continue through the intersection, but my gut feeling said, “Get in that left turn lane NOW!”
I made the turn and walked into a divine appointment. After talking to several people; who were there to mourn and celebrate Jazy’s life, I decided to do a blog post about the whole situation.
It was the scene of a horrible accident caused by – an ego trip. Some may call it “being young and stupid” others call it “road rage.” I call it an ego trip – because it is.
A 20 yr old and a 24 yr old flying down a busy street with something to prove is called an ego trip. This particular ego trip ended tragically. One of the “racers” (Pablo; only 24 yrs old) died at the hospital and so did a 19 yr old girl.
The 19 yr old (Jazy) who was killed had just got a job and she was suppose to meet her former Middle School teacher so they could celebrate.
I talked with Jasmine’s former middle school teacher and friends and they all agreed that street racing is an ego (power) trip and it has to stop. HOW it’s going to stop is the question. Something needs to be done to educate and encourage these young people who are killing themselves and innocent bystanders.
Below are the pictures that I took
