I watched “Bully” just a few days ago and was impacted in a major way. I started crying when Tyler Long’s father spoke of his son’s intolerance for big crowds and how he was treated due to his sensitivity. As a teen, Tyler was told, by his peers, to go hang himself .. so one day he did .. in his bedroom closet with his belt. By the time his father was done talking, there was nothing a tissue could do for me; I was using the sleeves of my shirt to dry my face. As each set of parents spoke, I cried more. And with each story that was told, I was reminded of situations in my own life which have caused deep wounds – some of them have just happened in the last few years – right here on my street. Even now, as I’m typing, I feel as if there is an ocean ready to pour from my eyes.
I created this website because I want young people to know that one can fight back with love .. by loving yourself. Love who you are; with all your quirks, “abnormalities” (realize that everyone is abnormal; meaning that no one is perfect), love the fact that you can do something that no one else on earth can do (even if others think it’s stupid), love that you have a destiny .. love that you can get back at the bully more by oozing confidence in yourself than by letting them get to you. Be so secure in who you are that you could even attempt to be your bully’s friend. Now, THAT would totally catch them off guard. To offer friendship in return is fighting the forces of evil. Personally, I believe that there’s too much evil and that if more kids felt validated and accepted, there wouldn’t be so much evil.
I seriously want feedback so, let the comments commence.
Have a great day – or night, depending on what time zone you’re in. 🙂
Thank you for your time.
